Until it is too late, homeowners often forget about the importance of protecting their home. Affecting both gated and non-gated communities, summertime is a common time for burglaries. While enjoying the freedom of summer by relaxing on the beach, or adventuring in a foreign country, home robberies should be the least of your worries.
With this in mind, owner Steve Barron and his team at Designer Door & Window not only hope that your residence is well-protected against the potential for break-ins and burglaries, but are here to help. By installing properly constructed windows and doors, you can leave all fears behind when traveling out of town.

Many individuals are unaware of the simplicity of breaking a homeowner’s glass door, or window to gain entry without even tripping an alarm.
On Tuesday, July 21, 2015, Mr. Barron was interviewed by WFAA reporter Jobin Panicker on camera as a subject matter expert during the station’s evening news telecast. The link to the report is available at

Mr. Barron is considered a subject matter expert when it comes to protecting your home against break-ins. Three years ago in July, he was interviewed on-camera by Dallas, Texas network affiliate WFAA Channel 8 to discuss homeowners’ door and window options for protection against residential thefts.
“We received a lot of feedback and customer queries for a few weeks. The response to that segment was impressive,” Steve said. “Unfortunately, burglars have continued to ply their trade in our area. And these crimes continue to occur this time of year when people are away on vacation. It’s something you have to guard against all the time, but especially now during the vacation season.”
Mr. Barron is committed to safeguarding homes to ensure the proper protection you deserve as a homeowner, and making individuals more knowledgeable of the presence of such issues.
“They’ve never had to worry….”
“In (the Dallas suburb of) Plano, more people are asking for secure windows, particularly with laminated glass,” said Mr. Barron. “They’ve never had to worry about (break-ins) before. It’s worth the investment – it’s like an insurance policy.
“Criminals know the glass in a typical patio door is one of the weakest spots in the home,” added Mr. Barron, who has worked with many burglary victims in the past. “They realize how easy it is to break the glass without having to disturb the door or the door’s alarm.”
While on camera, Mr. Barron reenacted the simplicity of shattering and removing a builder grade exterior glass door and easily stepping through the frame without setting off the alarm.
The homeowner has the option to enhance their alarm and/or reinforce their doors, said Mr. Barron. “Because most new homes feature builder grade doors that make you susceptible to a break-in, the homeowner must change their thought process and ensure they have a safer, more secure door.”
Mr. Barron said he strongly recommends doors with “laminated glass or, even better, solid steel or fiberglass doors manufactured by a company called Provia.”
